Transcript

Jodi Anne: Okay. I love these moments before we record. When we have witches and spiritual workers hanging out and chatting and we start talking about our lives and we start gossiping and then stuff comes up. Yes. So you have a person connected to someone you love. Causing havoc.
Yes,
and we were just talking my beautiful ear, bud Coven, about baneful magic, which we know I do.
And gray magic, because I think if you're a kung fu master and someone comes into your house and tries to kick your dog, you're allowed to kung fu them I'm not a kung fu master. But I'm a very powerful witch, so if you interfere with the people I love, or you interfere with my life, I'm allowed to use my gifts and skills to put you at bay.
So Ms. Nans, you mentioned a spell. What is it?
Nancy: Okay, so I mentioned a spell. There's a difficult person and you basically take their name and you write it on a piece of paper and you put it either in an ice cube tray or a water bottle, and you put in the freezer to freezer their behavior.
Jodi Anne: Yes. So I call that putting someone on ice.
I have done it. I have helped my clients do it and. It's a great spell. It works. I tend to also include a binding spell to that.
Okay.
Where I use thread and I bind them. Right.
Okay.
You take a picture or a link. Thank God. Social media, everyone's pictures everywhere. So easy to get an image of someone. These days you don't even need hair from their brush anymore. Thanks to Instagram. . So I tend to bind them. And what I choose to do when I do baneful magic, and this is stuff that people often don't talk about, is I want a loophole. So that should the person change the spell dissipates.
Nancy: I love that
Jodi Anne: because what I like to do is I like to bind their toxic behavior to them.
So that's the binding piece. Okay. So when you're wrapping them, 'cause typically toxic people, they take all this ugh, inside them.
Mm-hmm.
And they push it out and they project it.
Nancy: Yes.
Jodi Anne: Whether it's through being openly toxic or controlling, or micromanaging or causing havoc, it's all because of what's happening in them.
Nancy: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Anne: It's that hurt people. Hurt people thing.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: So I bind their actions to them. So their hatred, their racism, their biases does not stick to others, but stays on them until they do the work
Nancy: nice
Jodi Anne: themselves. So that's one of the ways that I find a loophole through the rule of three. Okay. Because when I'm binding someone, when I'm doing baneful magic, my intention is actually for them to heal.
What makes them toxic?
Nancy: I love that because it's still allowing that work to be done. You know? 'cause as we all grow and change, we hope that people are doing the work. Not everyone does. But I love that because should this person decide to do the work, then it can melt away.
Jodi Anne: Yeah. And so then I do the spell work and whether it's a binding or whether you put them on ice or whatever, there's that piece that my guides, my goddesses, are taken care of so I don't have to keep putting energy into the binding.
Nancy: Nice.
Jodi Anne: And it's actually up to the bound person to have an awakening and dissolve that spell.
Nancy: That's cool.
Jodi Anne: Because what I've learned and I'm just gonna like use kind of psychology and not witchcraft, when you have say someone who has an addiction problem.
Nancy: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Anne: They usually make quite a mess of their immediate family. Yes. That addiction is smeared all over. Everyone's hurt feelings and hearts. When the people who love an addicted person start having boundaries and making them accountable, there is an opportunity for them to have a spiritual awakening for them to start cleaning up their life, for them to start self-loving.
So I try to look at baneful magic from that same perspective. There's a lot of codependency in my family of origin, so a lot of us feel very terrible about having a boundary.
Mm.
So I took that idea and I started thinking about that with baneful magic. Like if I feel like a mean terrible person, because I've said, no, I won't let you yell at me.
That's the same energy that's behind a binding spell.
Nancy: Okay?
Jodi Anne: Right. You're saying to someone, no, I will not let you hurt me.
Nancy: Mm-hmm. Yeah. The boundaries,
Jodi Anne: is baneful, magic, really baneful.
Nancy: Mic drop,
Jodi Anne: right? Yeah. This is how we're starting the witching half hour or so. Welcome everyone. Welcome Ear Bud Coven and I have the beautiful Nancy Brady with me.
Hello. Thanks for having me, Jodi.
Oh, I love when we record together, the last few times we've hung out, we've been at witchy Suppers. What are we? Soul Sister Suppers, we can call it. Yes.
Nancy: Yes. And those are fun. Oh. Like-minded, beautiful souls and we just have a good time. I think we've let it kind of drop off for the summer just because everybody's gotten so busy.
But it'll be nice in the fall starting that up again.
Jodi Anne: Yeah, and you have your own podcast, so please, please plug away, tell my beautiful Coven about your podcast.
Nancy: Oh, sure. Thank you. We have i, I do a podcast with the lovely Tara Diana, and it's called Spirits Angels, and God. Slides. Oh my. And so we cover everything.
We cover stuff about medium ship development, about animal communication spirit, animals, you name it. We even go into like the mysterious, the ghost stuff. All of whatever, whatever floats our boat for that week. And we have some really fun conversations.
Jodi Anne: You guys are so much fun. You guys just have such great energy.
I love that you have that, and I invited you here this week for this episode because all summer, I have been having very specific messages from Bear.
Nancy: I'm so excited to hear all about them. I love Bear energy and I love working with it.
Jodi Anne: It's been unlike. It's a new message, so I'm gonna have you help me unravel it.
Nancy: Okay.
Jodi Anne: Because I've had a lot of shifts and changes and I've been working a lot more with astrology than I used to. Ah. So I do know that I'm in my Chiron return. Okay. So a lot of old wounds have come up with a new perspective.
Nancy: Oh, okay.
Jodi Anne: Interesting because one of the times that I've worked with Bear Energy 'cause I do have an ancestral bear spirit from my father's side of the family that does act as a protector, this big Scottish bear.
Nice. And the first time I worked with Bear Energy, it was all about being allowed to be quiet. Being allowed to rest, going into the cake. Okay.
Nancy: So we're talking like hibernation, that sort of type of energy.
Jodi Anne: Yeah. And I feel like this time it's very different. It's about awakening something.
Nancy: You bet it.
So
Jodi Anne: I wrote it in my love letter I that I sent out in [00:08:00] July, I think. And I think the story is also on my substack, but basically I kept having bear encounters. You know, I'm in the woods with the dog all the time.
Nancy: But you were even having bear encounters in the city.
Jodi Anne: Well, yeah. Poco has a lot of bears.
Nancy: Yeah. Yeah. Like I was like, wow. She is seeing a lot, a lot of bears.
Jodi Anne: Yeah. And one of them triggered a PTSD episode.
Nancy: Oh no.
Jodi Anne: Right, because we know I have PTSD. And I, it's something I, I live and work with. So one of the encounters triggered A-P-T-S-D incident and I just triggered and I could not come back down.
Nancy: Oh, wow.
Jodi Anne: I was walking with a friend and Luna charged after the bear. And the funny thing is Luna be, is going berserk and the bear just looks at me like. For real and goes and moves out of her leash area, sits back down and continues to eat blackberries. So I was tending to my nervous system for about a week.
Didn't didn't process. And then I was out camping with the kids and I'm driving along and I seen a bear out in Pemberton like this. Just the cutest bear. In a yellow field of flowers. And I was like, oh, I've got bare medicine to unpack. So I did some writing about that and that's when I figure it's more about waking up.
It's about emerging, it's about coming out of the cave.
Nancy: Yes.
Jodi Anne: And then when I was in Taino just a few weeks ago, a bear crossed the road right in front of me.
Nancy: See, and that to me, this is all about the inner potentials that are awakening. This is all about trusting your own unique rhythms, especially the fact that you're in Tofino where you surf a lot.
Mm-hmm.
That's your safe place. That's your downtime, your recharge. So if you're trusting those rhythms it's going to allow you to find the quote honey that you're seeking.
Jodi Anne: Tell me about that. Like the sweetness of life.
Nancy: The sweetness of life, right? And to not let anything get in your way. You like, when you see a bear, you get outta bear's way.
Nobody ever makes an effort to stop a bear. You just say, I am moving outta your way. And so when you're bringing bare energy into work, within that capacity. You're bringing her in from a place of power, from a place of strength, from a place of possibility, so that as you move forward with that strength and those solid four paws on the ground, that it's clearing way for all the possibilities of what you're working on.
So in, in a way, bear is helping you with that key spiritual world we hear all the time overused. You're manifesting.
Jodi Anne: I, I like that though, because what I'm hearing you say is it's about manifesting from a place of power.
Nancy: Yes. Not
Jodi Anne: from a place of scarcity or need.
Nancy: So the fact that it triggered some of the PTSD, it allowed you to reflect in it, but you're reflecting now not from being in the trauma, but from being on the outside looking in and saying, you know what?
I've got this. I am a hell of a hell of a strong goddess. I'm gonna move forward with everything that I want being put in front of me. And so it allows that to also help unpack and unravel some of that PTSD and the fact that you saw the one bear in this beautiful field of flowers. Think of the growth.
Think of the change, and again, we're back to seasons, right? Yeah. So summer is a time of growth. Summer is a time of new beginnings, and then going to the ocean and seeing the bear that's for you, your place of peace, of rejuvenation. So it's this beautiful imagine for the listeners a figure eight. So, you know, it's this cyclical sort of beautiful cycle that's.
Constantly ebbing and flowing, but the tides have changed to now being in your favor in a place of power. You've done the quiet reflection. You've been in the cave.
Jodi Anne: I love when you help me with animal messages. Your gift is so beautiful. Luna, be just heard. You are here, so I need to open the door and let her in.
So just, okay.
My name's come on.
Where's my train of thought? This one. I'm good at editing. Oh, there's my train of thought. I love the way you work with animals because you have such a deep well of knowledge.
Nancy: Thank you.
Jodi Anne: And I can hear how your understanding where I am in life and the message that bear is bringing. So what can you offer the earbud coven?
So when they're getting messages, so when they're finding feathers or when butterflies are visiting, or when they have maybe raccoons or wolves or crows coming and visiting them. What are some of the things, what are some of the questions they can ask themselves to help get that wisdom that they're. So they can understand the message,
Nancy: I'm gonna keep this real basic.
Yeah, real basic. When they're out there and they come across, let's say a feather, I want you to stop, pick that feather up and tell me exactly what you were thinking about at the moment that you found that feather. What is the situation that you're going through? Because that spirit's way of going, I got you.
They're leaving feathers, they're leaving messages saying, Hey, pay attention, color comes into it as well. And you can search animal type and this and that. So for example, the other day I found a red-tailed hawk feather and I've been dealing with, so you can do Google lens, you can search what type of feather it is.
There's been a hawk in the area recently. And I thought about it and it was really words of encouragement of having me stand within my power with some stuff I was going on at my muggle job, and really taking a step back to sit in that authenticity, but also to rise above the situation and see it from a non-personal perspective.
Mm-hmm. So imagine being on the back of the hawk and going, okay, I see what the situation is. It's very small. This isn't personal. Let's go unpack it now. I totally love Ted Andrews. So by all means, if you guys want a book to get to read about animals, Ted Andrews is the guru in my books. But you can also do Google, right?
So if you come, is
Jodi Anne: that the Animal Spirit book? The brown one? With that
Nancy: animal speak, it's called? Yes.
Jodi Anne: That is a good book.
Nancy: It's such a good book. If he was alive, I would be studying with him. A phenomenal man, phenomenal teacher. And I love his interpretations of animals because it is such a spiritual place that he comes from.
But you could do it, you can unpack it as basic as what are the traits of bear. So let's use Bear as an example. A bear is mother energy. A bear is protective of its cubs, a bear hibernates. But in the spring it hunts and it forages. Okay? So these are the traits of the animal. And then you can look into the spiritual meaning of it also and unpack that.
So what is it you're going on in your life? Why is that animal showing up? It's showing up for a reason. So you take those traits, you can Google any spiritual meaning. I encourage you to dip it your toe into the water of what it means to you. So what is it when you [00:16:00] see an eagle? Like if I was to say to you, Jodi, what does eagle mean to you?
Jodi Anne: To me, an eagle is freedom. It's power. But one of the other things about Eagle that I find interesting is it has the woosie-est call. Right. Like in movies, they actually use Hawk calls
Correct.
Yeah. So
one of the things about Eagle is although it's so majestic and this grandfather energy and that super powerful energy, there's also this little bit of humility.
. And there's something about vision. When you watch a eagle. I love that we live in BC and the amount of animal life that is around us.
Nancy: Yes.
Jodi Anne: When I watch an eagle circling and then dive down and pick up a fish in the water.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: Water reflects and you know, if you've ever tried to grab something under water, it kind of shifts a little bit.
Yeah. 'cause of the refraction of wa, of water. Right. And the two mediums. Yeah. And the way an eagle can see through that. It makes me think of being able to see. Through illusion.
Nancy: See. Okay. So I love all of that interpretation, and that is exactly how I would interpret Eagle. So if I came across an eagle, that's the medicine that that Eagle's offering to you.
So how can you apply that to the situation that you're currently in? Hmm. What is it that you need to see through and see through that illusion? What is it that you need to be majestic? What is it you need to rise above things to see it better? Where is it you're pulling wisdom from? And so that's how you can kind of analyze this and apply it to your everyday life and the situation that you're going in and often.
The animals will do like bear did for you, where they're showing up repetitively. 'cause the first time you're like, oh, that's a nice bear. Dang, she didn't get the message. Let's do it again, team. So then another bear comes. What? She still didn't get that one. Let's show her again. And so they're gonna constantly repeat the messaging often though.
Once is enough. So you know you're walking. Sleep. For me, I walk the dog a lot. So that's when animals appear to me a lot. And I'll be deep in thought because we have way too many thoughts that go through our head during the day. I'm trying to unpack something or I'm thinking of something that bothered me or I'm thinking something that made me happy.
'cause it doesn't always have to be something tumultuous. It can be a happy moment. And then the animal appears and I go, ah, there it is. There's the message. Right? So squirrel. I have so many squirrels around my house. You've been to my house. I have beautiful big trees. I feed the squirrels and I literally, I know when they're just being squirrels versus when they have a message because recently I've been feeling like I'm very overworked at my day job and I've was approaching burnout and so I just put the brakes on and went, Nope, we're taking time.
And I sat on my front deck. And the squirrel came and got a peanut and literally sat, I came down on the chair that was across from me, sat on the arm of it and just looked at me and just stared at me and like I was like, oh, we're having a moment here. And I literally got the message. Isn't it nice to just slow down?
Just focus on the moment. Focus.
Jodi Anne: I love that. I love that you got that from squirrel, who is often busy.
Nancy: And this is the time where, yes, they're starting to be busy and they're starting to hide the nuts and they're starting to do all of that. But when they're at my feeder, they take a moment just to enjoy the food and just to be grateful.
And I kid you not, I'm not making this up. The squirrel, then laid on the chair and put its little head on its hand and just looked at me. And I was like, well, this is lovely. We are having an incredible moment right now. And I thought, thank you for the reminder to just be in control of my time. Thank you for the reminder to set boundaries on when I have to be working like crazy and when I can just enjoy the moment.
And then literally after I said thank you, the squirrel got up, took the peanut, and off. Off she went.
Jodi Anne: I love that. I love that story because there's so much in it. Some of the things I'm hearing is differentiating between squirrels, being squirrels who are always on your house and your trees. And the moment that the squirrel is saying, Hey babe, I have a message for you.
Yes. Recognizing that, 'cause I think that's something people have a hard time with. Knowing if the sign is true and for them, and what I keep hearing you say is when you think you're getting a sign tune in what's happening with you emotionally. Yeah. What's in your head? What's going on for you?
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: If you are brooding, and I liked what you said too, it doesn't always have to be negative stuff, but if you are in that thought space.
Where you're like really internal and an animal shows up for you. That's an answer. And sometimes it's a confirmation of goodness in your life. Sometimes it's an answer to a situation. It's always a message.
Nancy: Exactly. Exactly. And you and I both do mediumship. Mm-hmm. And more often than not, animals are the best bringer of spirit.
My dad shows up as a robin.
Jodi Anne: Yeah.
Nancy: And so often, or a butterfly. So I know when I see a butterfly and it's interesting 'cause there's only one I, I don't wanna call it a monarch 'cause I know those aren't really here, but it looks very similar to that one. A butterfly in my neighborhood for like two days and I was just like, huh, that's really cool.
Or I'm walking again, walking the dog thinking, geez dad, I could really use your advice about work right now. And I look at the fence as I'm walking in the alley and there's a robin running along the fence and I go, ah, there you are. Okay. Time to tune in, right. Or often loved ones will just show up to let the people know I'm safe, I'm okay.
And it's almost like a hug from the other side.
Jodi Anne: Definitely. I get when I do mediumship with dearly departed, it's beautiful to me how often the message is, Hey, I'm here.
Nancy: Yeah,
Jodi Anne: I'm here.
Nancy: Yeah,
Jodi Anne: I hear you. I still love you. I'm rooting for you.
Nancy: Exactly.
Jodi Anne: I'm at your back. I got you.
Nancy: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Anne: That's often a message I get from Spirit and it's probably why I do so much ancestor work.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: Right.
Yeah. I do get, I get animals from, yeah.
Nancy: Do you have a lot of animals when you're surfing show up? Do you, have you come across whales or seals or.
Jodi Anne: Yeah, surfing and on my paddleboard. So, the first time I took my kids surfing Totino, because there's a couple, there's a secret place I surf that they'd been it's a really hard wave and they don't really like surfing there.
And then Totino's just like such love. They'd never really seen the ocean move like that. 'cause the ocean moves differently Tofino
Nancy: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Anne: It was a foggy day, so it was in the summer. So heat wave on the mainland pulls the fog off the ocean. It's like nature's air conditioning.
Nancy: Nice.
Jodi Anne: Scatter 'cause they don't wanna be on the beach in the drizzly rain.
So all us little surf heads go out and it's nothing but surf heads and, and wetsuits and whatever. And Kai was in the water. Not big waves, just easy waves on a boogie board. And there was an otter. In the water with him and I have a [00:24:00] video 'cause I didn't, I had seen the Otter and I filmed it. Then later I was filming Kai in the wave 'cause I was already done surfing and you can see the otter riding the same wave as him.
'cause they'll play in the waves.
Nancy: That's so much fun.
Jodi Anne: Yeah. And we get we get sea lions in the water with us. They're usually out a little bit further. I haven't seen them play in the water or in the shore pound as much. 'cause it's so shallow.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: But I've been out watching for the next set of waves and seeing sea lions bobbing in the water, and they're only about maybe 10 or 12 feet away.
Nancy: Now. That's a little intimidating. Yeah, that's a big animal.
Jodi Anne: I, and I'm not afraid of seals. I've had seals try to come on my paddle board. I've had seals play with us on our paddle boards, push them with their noses. Yeah, it's interesting 'cause seals can be, they choose when to be loud.
Nancy: Mm-hmm.
Jodi Anne: Right?
Because they can pop up silent as can be when they're not sure of you.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: But when a lot of seals in the lower mainland, like in around Rocky Point, and then the Barard inlet are used to people in their boats. Yeah. So they will slap the water and they'll poof air and they'll make noise and they'll play and they'll, like, when you're swimming in the water, they will swim kind of around you and they'll come under your board and pop up and then all kinds of stuff.
Nancy: That's very fun.
Jodi Anne: Yeah. They don't, I find when we get off our boards and into the water, they scatter a little bit away. They prefer us on the land and them in the water. They don't like us in the water with them. What else have I seen? I have had sea lions swim under my board when I'm out in Victoria, in Willow Bay.
Nancy: Wow.
Jodi Anne: That scared me. 'cause they're so big,
Nancy: you know, and I think a sea lion would scare me more than a whale underneath.
Jodi Anne: Yeah.
Nancy: Just because of, do you remember there's a few years back, tourists in Steveston in Richmond and they put their little three-year-old next to a sea lion that was up sunbathing on the dock, which was the stupid thing.
No. Can see me
Jodi Anne: like the horrified look on my face 'cause it's audio, but I'm like just shocked. I did not know this happens.
Nancy: Yeah. And the sea lion grabbed the child and went in the water, thought, great lunch. And I just, I thought, my goodness, there needs to be a certain amount of respect for the animals and the wildlife around us.
And that's, I think, where tourists need to really be educated when they're going onto the beaches and seeing the seals and the sea lions. But they're very predatory. And so that's, that could be very scary. I wanted to also add for your listeners. We're talking about physical animals, but they can work with an animal and their energy without even being around.
So
Jodi Anne: tell me about this Nan
Nancy: Yeah, so what I do after, and I keep talking about my muggle job, but after I've had a really stressful day one of my main animals is orca. And so what I will do is I will go into meditation and I will call in orca energy, and then I will visualize. Orcas and the ocean and me crawling into the ocean and swimming with them.
It just washes away all the cares that I have. You can do, let's say you need strength. Maybe you need you feel like you just can't carry on and you need someone to carry you. You can envision horse energy and bring a beautiful horse to stand in front of you and have them carry you on their back.
These are different ways you can work with animals without having to have them in front of you. Especially for some people, if they're intimidated. By animals or scared of them. But there's all sorts of ways that you can work with these spirit animals in their medicine and not have to physically be in front of them.
Jodi Anne: I like that, especially because a lot of people live in more urban spaces than we do. Like you and I are in the lower mainland, so we have these big green spaces. We have lots of very wild spaces around us.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: It's quite easy to slip into nature in the middle of
Nancy: the city. This
Jodi Anne: big metropolis, like even Stanley Park
Nancy: mm-hmm.
Is
Jodi Anne: so wild. And it's right in the middle of the city.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: So what about. When we're scrolling 'cause I feel like sometimes I get messages while I'm scrolling. I will absolutely, I'll see animals that I've been working with, that I've seen in nature recently and on my phone. Or I'll get a meme from someone I love with some animal in it.
Nancy: Yeah. And they'll present themselves to your way the, sorry. They'll present themselves to you in many different ways. So. I'll give you an example. When I was first opening up, ready to working with my mentors, ready, getting ready to hang my little placard saying, Hey, I do this work. We always wanna a sign your sign.
Jodi Anne: Mm-hmm. Right?
Nancy: And my, we have
Jodi Anne: that. We do wanna sign your sign.
Nancy: So my master power animal is raven. Mm-hmm. It's been a strong animal for me my whole life. And she was like, well, you can ask your animal to show itself to you so you know that it's actually your master animal working with you. I said, okay, great.
So I was like, okay, if you're there, I need a sign. I wanna see a Raven three times in the next week. And so, lo and behold, I'm driving to work. At the time, I was working downtown Vancouver and I lived in Richmond. So I drive through this sort of airport area. There's no ravens there ever. Well. That day in the middle of the big circle roundabout, there was a giant raven sitting in the grass, and I went, wow.
I'm like, thank you. That is amazing. I'm gonna take that as number one. I still need two more, please. So then I get downtown and I'm like, this is gonna be hard. Like I've set this up for a challenge. I end up behind an all black van with a vanity plate, Raven. Oh wow. And I went second. Thank you. I'd still like a third please.
Because that's the human in us, right? And so then I got home and. The television, there was a BB, C special on Ravens. So there Spirit is always going to use whatever's in front of us to communicate. So whether it be Instagram, whether it be tv, whether it be a van, right, with a vanity plate, they're always going to try to get those messages to us to go, Hey, I'm here.
I got you, I got your back.
Jodi Anne: And I love that you gave them a week and they gave it to you in one day.
Nancy: Isn't that insane? I love that. I love that. They were like, yeah, we're not messing around lady. Just take this, let's move on.
Jodi Anne: I had something similar years ago. I was having a tough day and I was out and the kids were little 'cause they were in strollers, I was running and they were in st running stroller.
And I was like. Just, there was this beautiful eagle circling and everything, and I was like, okay, whatever. There's always eagles here. Like I'm, I know it's not for me, like whatever spirit like I was in just this really negative space at that moment. And suddenly the eagle, as I'm saying this, the eagle flew off.
It took off. It was like, fine lady. And then I'm. Running along and everything. And I got other emotional signs because I was in a hard way and I was running to deal with my stress. So I was like, and near the end of my run, I didn't see any other animals that whole run. And then near the [00:32:00] end of my run I was like, huh, isn't that interesting?
Like I told them I didn't believe the sign and it left.
Nancy: Yeah.
Jodi Anne: Maybe that's like a me problem and I should not be so like, 'cause by then my adrenaline had worn off and I was in a better space. And there was two eagles on the next tree.
Nancy: Beautiful.
Jodi Anne: And I was like, huh. Okay. I got it. I'll stop doubting.
