EP 68: Astral travel with Katherine Gillett

Astral traveling from the perspective of a agnostic practitioner and a shamanic practitioner

My conversation with Katherine has been one of my favorite interviews, she brings such a fresh perspective to topics that I am passionate about. Katherine will tell you that this is because she was raised in an agnostic home, so when her gifts showed up it was free of any religious dogma.

At a young age Kat started spontaneously astral traveling and seeing through the veil between worlds, now that’s my work for it, she did not have a word for it or a physical teacher to guide her.

Kat had to come up with her own definitions as she discovered her gifts.

This is what makes this conversation one you will want to here.

There are so many beautiful truths talked about form 2 different vernaculars.

That I think it will help all of you, regardless of your background, expand your ideas about the spaces between our world and how it all connects.

Kat has a youtube channel called “Spirituali- tea ” where she spills the tea on all things spiritual.

I’ve guested on it… you can find that conversation here

Katherine’s journey into spiritual developments started with a trip to the public library… like me she has been on this path since pre-internet times, when information was much more gatekept. Information had to be sought out, there was little explanation or context to the books that could be found in a public library or bookstore.

Katherine had what she terms an “awakening” to her energy system at 12 years old, she had been reading and “playing with ” a book on meditative practices.

her ability to channel opened up, and as many of us know once we feel connected and start to tune in to the spiritual it is not something that can just be turned off.

Next book she found was gallic book of spells and Kathrine performed a summoning

  • she did this without fully understanding what she was doing
  • the result was that she summoned a fey creature
  • this caused all kinds of chaos in her life
  • her Mother worked with her reaching out to psychics and healers to help her daughter
  • Kat began to regularly shifting and learning from personalities she encountered on the astral plane

Because she was meeting different personalities in the astral realm Kat started noticing that human spirits can get stuck there. When there is a traumatic or sudden loss of life, they spirit can get confused and not cross over to the other side of the veil.

In my tradition we call this work

       Psycho-pomp - meaning a Guide of Souls

Psychopomps (from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός, psychopompós, literally meaning the 'guide of
souls') are creatures, spirits, angels, demons, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is
to escort newly deceased souls from Earth to the afterlife.

This is an area of work that I do as well, and learned as part of my shamanic training. WE use different terminology that Katherine does to do the same work.

I love how she describes the energy and how she has come to understand it

Kat uses the metaphor of coming up from a deep dive, how the human body needs to acclimate to the pressure changes as they come from the high-pressure zones under the ocean to sea level and then out of the water. If you done too quickly a diver will experience the bends. The same sort of thing can happen on a spiritual level, as a soul transitions from the denseness of our material world into a more expansive soul state, there can be confusion when it happens too suddenly.

Kat learned to manage her emptions, including the fear she would feel from the dis-embodied experiences, so that she could help the spirits that were trapped. Keeping her vibration attuned to one of peace and calm. So that the soul she was dealing with could align with her vibration and rise out of the scenario or scene they were stuck in.

When we are on the energetic plain, we are co-creating with the universe on an instantaneous level,
if we bring fear with us we will manifest more trauma and fear. We cannot bring our empathy with us,
if we do we will be adding pity and sorrow to the situation.

A broad almost detached perspective is needed.

My own training echoes the lessons that Kat learned, that we need to be a grounded non-judgemental container when we are walking the astral plane doing psychopomp work. I was taught to see things objectively and remove the idea of judgement. TO understand that all things have a place within the realms… Even those that our belief system would want to colour as negative.

Our conversation naturally flows into the definitions of negative entities.

We get to understand how Kat defines what most of us think of as “negative or low vibrational entities.” Her definition free from dogma is beautiful to me.

I feel it helps put into perspective how our own proceptions of the worlds can colour what we label something. Good or Bad evil or helpful, most of it can be summed up as does this energy behave like a human soul, with emotional and empathetic connection or is it different.

(side note … if we can understand this on an energetic level it can ripple through our lives teaching us how to be more understanding of others and how they experience the world)

Most of the time when we notice that something works differently than our own energy constructs and personalities we label it as evil. I was taught in my shamanic training that everything has its place, and that all the vastness of the universe is varying shades of grey.

I love how our teachings are so similar at its core yet came to us in very different ways. I feel it speaks to the deep truths in our world
