Ep 47: Samhain Special

This Samhain I invited my coven sister Nathalie onto the podcast, to share about how we celebrate Samhain.

Pop in those earbuds as a couple of Witches share about Al’ Hallows Eve,

the holiday most associated with Witches

Nathalie is a 3rd generation witch and my coven sister, we have known each other and worked magic together for more than 10 years. I am very excited to have on the podcast and for all of you in the earbud coven to get to know her.

Just a quick note on the audio… all of my interviews are usually recorded via Zoom, this is the 1st time I have used my mic to record 2 voices, and we had a few technical blurps.

I apologize for the occasional sonic blast and general variability of today's episode.

Our conversation weaves and winds around the topic of Halloween, our favourite parts of the holiday, and some of the memories we have of the fall season.

We touch on the thinning of the veil and celebrating our ancestors. We both have ancestor altars that we create in honour and remembrance during this season. Our dear departed are with us year-round but feel so much closer as we move into the fall and this time of year.

Samhain is traditionally the Witch’s new year, it marks the end of the harvest and the time when we move into the darkness.

I tend to take stock at this time of year, looking at the goals I had set in the spring and how I have accomplished or changed them. For me, it marks the time of turning inward and preparing for the season of winter and darkness.

Nathalie shares her feeling of abundance and gratitude, the feeling of fullness of life after the gorging of summer harvest. The connection she has with gratitude and her ancestors, how our generation has so much more than our grandparents did.

When it comes to magical practices when the veil is thin, Nathalie tends to focus on gratitude and honouring of her ancestors. She reserves spell weaving for other times.

Depending on the year … I have done release work on Halloween full moons, a few years ago I did a particularly powerful releasing spell. I invited my ancestors to be a part of the work, giving to their loving hands the things I had been grieving that year and needing to let go of so that I could heal. Having their help was both powerful and soothing.

We touch on the idea of masks in magical practice… and how we can use both make-up or masks as a way to tap into aspects of ourselves that we may be shy to accept or learn about. I feel like this could be its own podcast topic … using masks to unlock your power …  oh and glamour magic that could be its own topic too.

I hope you enjoy our holiday special, Both Nathalie and I share about the holiday and what it means to us. Our love of sweets and the smell of burnt pumpkins.

Safe tricking and treating to you all !

May you feel the Love and Strength of your Ancestors holding you close this season

Blessings of the Samhain Season to you !
