Ep 41: Spells

Working with spells is at the heart of witchcraft. I feel that is what separates it from new-age spiritualism in all of its many forms. Witches cast a spell in order to create favourable circumstances and bring about a desired thing.

There are love spells, money spells, glamour spells, spells of protection…..I think those are the big ones, but there are spells for all sorts of things.

                             Note that all spell work should be done in a properly cast circle. 
                             I’m not going to dive into that as there is an episode about circle casting

I tend to separate healing work into its category.

I do this because it is nuanced… I was taught there is an overlap in physical and emotional ailments. That our energetic body and our physical body are so interwoven that they affect each other.

So I approach healing work from a shamanic perspective and employ different techniques than when I am doing spell work.

Healing work doesn’t have the same “end result” in mind as well work either, its more about clearing pain and trauma, re-balancing energy, letting go of beliefs that block us, and returning the body and soul to a state of wellness

• Spellwork is also not manifestation work.
• Manifestation work uses the laws of attraction, you align your energy with vibration and attract similar vibrations to you
• It can be similar to spellwork and I have seen some confusion in our communities between the 2
• For me spellwork is directed and specific “I want X in my life”
• And manifestation work is drawing what aligns with you to you
• We are always co-creating using the laws of attraction.
• Focusing on our fears manifests chaos, focusing on love manifests inner peace and connection
• If at our core we believe we are unworthy of blessings and recognition for our work in the world, we will attract situations where we fill passed over and invisible no matter how hard we work

Spells work differently

They direct energy with a specific purpose to create a specific outcome.

We often use known correspondences to help direct the energy ad give the spell shap. Many witches including me will call on deities to assist in the spell. The energy we collect and shape is then directed into the energetic field or auric ether, with the intention of moving and changing things to our benefit.

Now can you work a spell without correspondences and beautifully written words?

YES, you can but it takes practice.

Think about learning an instrument – when you first learn guitar or piano you learn a few songs by heart. Using pre-arranged song structure. Then you start creating little songs, with your basic cords, or power cords.

That’s where many Witchlings are at.

They use spells out of grimoires,  or ones that their friends have taught them. They might re-write the words to a protection spell to make it more personal

Just like a new musician

But to start with a free-form spell off the top of your head as a new initiate is like throwing someone with 6 months of guitar into an open-mic jam session

It will suck and produce  ugly results
