Ep 32 : Earth Element

Welcome to my series on the elements, these are fundamental building blocks of spell work and ritual work.

Today’s episode is all about Earth.

Beautiful Gaia

Who’s energy is always around us, like literally under our feet.

All of us are already connected to the energy of Gaia, I believe and have been taught that we are connected to the life-affirming energy of earth naturally. We all resonate and are connected to the life force โ€ฆ that spark that is in-side all things. The wisdom of the tree, the miracle that is life.

Working with Earth energy is all about bringing that connection and relationship with earth from our unconscious mind to our conscious one. It’s a lot like when we use breathwork. We are always breathing, but when we tune into our breath we can use it as a tool. In Yoga, we use the breath to power up / oxygenate our physical body and calm our busy mind. Similarly by tuning into our connection to earth, we power up our energy field.

When I think of earth energy I always think of grounding.

Grounding is Important Because….

we are connected to Gaia
  • when you ground your energy you are consciously connecting to earth energy
  • Connecting with spirit and channelling requires you to rise your vibration and expand your auric filed
  • The connection with Gaia and earth energy needs to be strong and secure when you do energetic work
  • Strong connections with earth energy allows a witch or psychic to draw from earth’s limitless resources
  • week connection or forgetting to ground can cause emotional exhaustion

When you ground you are consciously securing your energetic field to the limitless and abundant source of energy of our earth.

I am a pretty energetic fire sign with lots of fire and air in my chart. It was very important for me to learn how to ground. Especially because I have chosen to work professionally as a witch. I have found that when I ignore the step of grounding before I do work as a medium, I not only end up exhausted but also have emotional ripples disrupting my flow for a few days.

My gift to you in April’s love letter will be a grounding exercise that I learned through the Last Mask Centre. They are an institute of Shamanic Healing and Training, that I have studied with and who my Shamanic Mentor has also done some training with. (You can learn more about my training on my lineage page) I regularly use the framework of the grounding meditation I was taught in the Energy Mastery class. Like most witchy practices it can be finessed it a bit with our own personal flair without altering the effectiveness.

If you haven’t signed up for my monthly Love Letter, you can do that here.

*please note that this is not a marketing email, I have deep feeling around consent and respect your inbox space. I will ask before I send you marketing emails, signing up means that I will send you a monthly love letter to encourage you on your path and share bits of my journey with you.
Gaia is abundance

When we start working with earth energy we may have to challenge some of the cultural conditioning we have around scarcity and abundance.  We live in a culture that perpetuates the lie of scarcity. This is the underpinning of patriarchal and imperialistic mindsets/ culture/ systems of control, that have created our consumeristic society. A system that relies heavily on greed and fear. We shop and spend from a place of fear, we hoard resources from a false belief that there is not enough.

When we tune into nature and the elemental energy of earth we can witness that abundance is the law of earth.

I live in the pacific northwest. Itโ€™s a temperate rainforest. For those of you in my earbud coven who are not familiar with BC. It’s amazing and beautiful. Itโ€™s a heavily forested region of coniferous trees that receives a tone of rain. We donโ€™t get snow like the rest of Canada, because of the pacific ocean and how we are nestled in the Canadian Rockeys give us a uniquely chill climate.

Similar to the US’s rainy Seatle

The laws of abundance are easy to see in the forests and even just the green spaces around my home. In the spring we have wild blackberries, they are actually considered a nuisance plant to most gardeners. Wild salmon berries also grow in our parks. Fiddleheads or edible baby ferns pop up in the spring. And if you wanted to you could eat the skunk cabbage that grows in all the marshy places on hiking paths.

And thatโ€™s just the really obvious flora and fawn in a cityscape. When I go out camping there is sooo much more.

Abundance is the true state of our planet. The idea that there is not enough food or really enough of anything is a created construct.

connecting with nature
meeting our neighbour

One of the ways I encourage you to tune into the element of Earth is to learn about how things grow and thrive in your region.

What animals are native to where you live?

How have they adapted to city living?

My area of greater Vancouver has a healthy population of bears. Raccoons, skunks, coyotes and so many birds. (for real I heard a woodpecker this morning while writing this, knocking on my neighbour’s chimney.) There are enough natural food resources in my area to support an ecosystem that includes black bears. We have city bi-laws about trash so that the bears cannot get into our trash.

Even with people all around these animals live and thrive. The Raccoons or โ€œtrash Pandasโ€ as they are sometimes lovingly called. Invade gardens and will snatch apples and grapes. (probably more but thatโ€™s all I have seen them steal from my yard.)

The Earth Signs of The Zodiac

  • Taurus
  • Virgo
  • Capricorn

Earth energy is constant and predictable, so it makes sense that all three signs thrive in predictability. They like routines and planning

Seeds will sprout in spring, animals will migrate, the laws of nature that we can depend on and create security are governed by earth energy.

The Root Chakra is Associated with Earth Energy

The root chakra governs our sense of safety and security. For those of us who have past pains that trigger our nervous systems and send us into a flight/fight/freeze response, working with our root chakra is helpful and also nuanced.

(I feel it is best done with the compassionate guidance of a healer)

It is my opinion and experience, that focusing on grounding techniques first will assist with deeper healing work. Opening to the idea that nature and Gaia can be stabilizing. Earth energy and the rhythms of nature are consistent supportive energy that we can tune into when feeling overwhelmed or disconnected.

This is the old wisdom behind many modern practices in coaching and therapy that use nature sounds and nature reflection as tools. Gaiaโ€™s energy is sheltering, consistent, and predictable, and we naturally attune to the nurturing energy in trees, and babbling brooks.

I feel there is so much more to discuss on this topic but will leave that for another time โค
