EP 26: Winter Solstice

Happy Solstice Season, it’s a new moon and the longest night of the year.

This is episode 26 and the last one for this year and of season one.

We made it to the end of season One !!

I still find it wild that I have a Podcast and put out regular content. I am so grateful to each one of you who listen and spend you time with me. I am so very grateful to have you on this path with me.

Deep beautiful solstice blessing to each of you in my earbud coven.

Late December is a bit of a tuff time for me… all I want to do is curl up with warm mugs of tea and watch shows. I tend to get pretty reflective and quiet.

It’s that natural flow thing

Tuning into the Rhythm of Nature is part of Practicing as a Nature Based Witch

So, I embrace the lower energy and get reflective. The quieting and slowing down is a perfect time to go inward, into the deeper quieter feeling and thinking places. I feel this is intensified whenever a new moon falls on the solstice. It’s a natural time to pause and reflect.

Today’s episode matches the season. It is full of my thoughts and reflections.

I’ve been taking stock of all that has come to pass with the starting of “The Witching Half Hour or so…” Lots has changed and shifted for me. I knew that this would be the case… when we say yes and move towards the things in life that are calling to us. The universe answers back and expands us.

I open up about the process of birthing this project. How teaching classes online in 2021 (often beaming in from a campsite) was a key element in showing me the value of the information I have floating around my head as an “elder witch.”

Honestly it still took me months to start the podcast. It wasn’t until November of 2021, that I really started to flesh out the idea and start recording.

Going into season 2, I have a few ideas.

I’ll be starting a new series on the elements.

  • Earth
  • Air
  • Water
  • Fire

Going through each one in turn. I want to include some downloadable meditations or maybe journal prompts for you to work with too.

I’ll be sending this downloadable content to you in a newsletter.

It will be a bit of magic sprinkled into your inbox each month.

In our episode, we do touch a bit on the traditions of the solstice.

How there is a natural releasing that happens as the year closes and the nights lengthen. How the traditional feasting that was worked into the celebrations, wasn’t just about joyful-making and celebrating. They were about surviving the last half of winter and having provisions. Animals we slaughtered and feasted on to sustain the villages; with reduced grazing and limited resources, we only took what was necessary into the last part of winter.

As we settle into the dark days of winter, we can think about what we want to release and leave behind.

I’ve been coming face to face with my own limiting beliefs

And that is what I am choosing to slaughter

So, in the dark days of the solstice season, I’ll be looking at the roots of those beliefs, pulling them out and letting them go.

This has been a big year of growth for me. I’ve had thing come up that I wasn’t expecting. I knew that starting the Podcast would have a ripple effect within my spiritual path. It just did not highlight what I thought it would.

It’s actually easier to do the work of leave things behind when the energy of nature aligns with your work.

Part of that work is to nurture ourselves, to recognize that shifting and changing can be tiring work. That’s its ok to need rest and integration time.

If you have been giving of yourself over the holidays, cooking a feast, planning celebrations, and organizing your family (of origin or your friend family) Try to remember to honour the energy it takes to provide for others.

Spend some time re-filling your cup.

I wish you the Brightest Blessings.

In the darkness of these short days, may you find things to lift your heart, spread a smile across your face, and have laughter escaping your lips.
