I have an interesting episode for you today… I am talking with Mike, a paranormal investigator and founding member of the Paranormal Road Trippers.
Mike Morin is a founding member of The Paranormal Road Trippers. He has investigated hauntings and the paranormal for more than 20 years. Mike takes and analytical, progressive, traditional and no nonsense approach to the paranormal. Hid journey has taken him all over Canada, the United States and England. He’s a well-known speaker at paranormal events and a host on Spaced Out Radio.
One of the things that make The Paranormal Road Trippers unique from other paranormal investigators is that they travel. You can find them investigating the untold stories through our Pacific North West, connecting small-town folklore and local history with paranormal claims.

So full disclosure I am truly fascinated with the idea of investigating a haunted space. The idea of getting a tangible record of what I see and feel as a medium has always interested me. One of the services I offer my clients is house clearings and blessings, so I have experience working with the energies and entities that can be involved in a full-on haunting. I know what I feel and pick up is real, and I have had validation from clients around those impressions.
So I’m not looking at this from an angle of proving ghosts are real… I am already convinced. It’s the idea of a 3rd party style verification…. a non-biased instrument readout that can show everyone the energies we “sensitive” people feel.
I have never been on a paranormal investigation. I know very little about gathering evidence and documenting the ghostly activity. Interviewing Mike was so interesting. He taught me about the methods used in paranormal investigations and had me making connections between what I know and feel as a medium and what Mike and his crew of investigators are recording and documenting with their equipment.
Lets talk equipment and lingo too…
I asked Mike about his favorites things to use on a job
- Tape Recorder – This is a “must have” piece of equipment.
- For such a common piece of equipment it gives so much information. Most investigators are recording digitally now, you can even use your phone. Pro tip uses a “WAV” format recording as it has better bandwidth and is less compressed than MP3 style.
- EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomenon
- The phenomenon of disembodied voices is often not heard during the investigation. They are heard when you listen back to what was recorded during the investigation.
- EMF detector – Elector Magnetic Frequency detector
- One of the ways we can pick up on ghostly activity is with these detectors. Mike and his crew make sure to scan the location for normal EMF before they investigate. That way they can rule out common things that produce EMF, like our wi-fi modems, electric generators, televisions or computer screens. Often the Paranormal Road trippers will turn off power in large locations (hotels or restaurants) to rule out EMF interference with their equipment.
- Proximity Sensor – uses infrared, like your TV remote, and monitors motions.
- Can be set off by motion when energy passes through the beam, detecting motion we can’t see with our naked eyes. Currently a favourite piece of equipment of the team. Mike shares a story where the footsteps they heard in a haunted house set off the proximity sensors in the room.

Mike collects hunted items. He has a corner of his office dedicated to the objects. Some of them are permeant residents in his home and others are just there while he investigates them. Many of the items he has in his collection are Victorian ones. During our zoom chat, Mike showed me both a painting and a mirror. The haunted painting does give off quite a vibe as you can see from its photo.

Mike shared a story of an investigation into a haunted doll with me, you can find the YouTube episode below.
We chatted about a doll that is both an heirloom and haunted item that Mike has investigated. It seems that each person who inherits that doll lives a sort of “spinster” lifestyle. I defiantly got a psychic hit on the Doll. My impression was that the spirit associated with the haunting was a young child, possibly a baby, who forms an unhealthy bond with the owner of the doll. The link to that video is below. It was filled for “In Van City” and can be watched on their sight.
As I write these notes I still haven’t watched the video… I promise you I won’t until after everything goes live. That way we can all find out together if my impressions were accurate of not.

What I enjoy the most about talking with Mike are the respectful approaches he has in his work with the paranormal. He coined the phrase “previous tenants” for the energies involved in hauntings. He talks compassionately about how ghosts were once people just like you and me. His team operates from a place of integrity providing aftercare for their clients. This might look like setting up spiritual boundaries, connecting the property owners with a medium who can assist them, or simply talking with the previous tenants so that the current tenants can live peacefully in the space.
You can find Mike and his team or YouTube. They post episodes of their investigations. It takes 3 to 4 days of footage to produce the highlight reels that are on their channel.
The Paranormal Road Trippers can be found on Instagram, Facebook and TicTok. But are most active on Instagram, you can follow and contact the team through their DM’s
