Today’s episode is a very special two-parter that I recorded live at Vancouver Pagan Pride. This year’s event was the first time it was back in person. I had the opportunity to talk to a few members of the organizing committee a bit ago, you can go back to episode 15 to give that a listen and get a bit of the inside scoop on the event, including the mission statement of the Pagan Pride movement as well as how you can get involved here in the lower mainland at our event.
Pagan Pride Days are all about fostering tolerance and understanding between people with different belief systems. I identify as a Witch and got to this space of owning the word “Witch” through a winding path of self-discovery. One of the loveliest things about being on this spiritual path is that each individual gets to find their own way and discover what resonates with them. Pagan Pride is a day when we can come together to celebrate our uniqueness and share with each other. Pagans from all sorts of paths come together in this lovely park space, in a spirit of acceptance and join in the community; to attend workshops, participate in ceremonies and just enjoy each other.
On event day I was able to chat with many people, it was my goal to talk to individuals that represented the major paths, including Druidry, Wicca, the Troth, Shamanic paths and all the beautiful variations. I wanted to get multiple perspectives for those of you in the earbud coven that are new to the path (or for those of you who are experienced and feeling the tug of a new mystery) Many of the people who gifted me their time spoke of how their personal practice had evolved and included more than one branch of paganism.
The day started with our opening ritual lead by Dave and Garland. Now, because I do most of my work as a solo practitioner these days this is my favourite part of VanPPD. The energy we bring together when we work as a collective is … well just yummy. I did not attend any of the workshops this year, as I was busy in my booth. I did manage to attend the Heathen Ritual, hosted by Kith and Kin, the ruin I was gifted in the ritual was “Jera” (the alter photos were taken with permission.) Unfortunately I didn’t get around to many of the vendors and was only able to chat with one reader. Leaving my booth at all was only possible because of my dear friends who not only tended my booth but sold a bunch of soap in while I ran around with my little mic. Thanks my loves !!
