“Pray to the moon when she is round; all you seek will be found.”
Today’s episode is a 2 parter. Part 1 starts off with Moon Magic. As our closest heavenly body, the moon’s energy has a big effect on a lot of things, our tides, animal migration, and our magical workings. Now it is true that you can do any ritual you want at any time. But why wouldn’t you tap into the energy the moon is shining down on us and boost your work.
Each phase of the moon has special energy we can use.
- The full moon is about reflection, she shines a light on our emotions. Revealing places within ourselves that we can heal and grow. This is a fantastic time for release work, what was revealed to us on the full moon can be released through the weeks that follow.
- the waning moon phase that follows enhances our release work. As the moon’s face slowly recedes from our view, we can envision what we are releasing to be fading away.
- The new moon is a time for preparation and planting. When that sliver of ethereal light hovers above us we can do manifestation work. As the moon grows our desires expand and come to fruition.
idea of as above so below. What we see in the night sky can ais us in our work, providing us with a natural energy to tap into and a concept to attach our human minds to that will assist any sympathetic magic we do.
There is one last moon topic that is important when it comes to our magical workings, it’s when she goes “void of course.” That’s when relative to our position on earth it looks like the moon has stopped moving and she appears stationary in the sky. It is not recommended to do any magic during these hours. You can find a chart or calendar for these online, I just use my Llewellyn Witches calendar. I learned about this many years ago, so do not have any examples to share of spells gone sour. what I like about this book
- the layout is great – the first 3 chapters are an introduction both to the art of working with essential oils and to sympathetic magic
- author’s tone – throughout the book, she is welcoming and inclusive to anyone at any level of knowledge. There is a lot of information in the book, the tone makes it easy to absorb and digest the information.
- My favourite part is the alphabetical listing of essential oils. I mainly use this book as a reference when I craft up recipes for my soap. There is so much great information in this chapter. She includes both the physical properties as well as the magical correspondence. Before this book, I was always cross-referencing between more than one resource for this type of information.
- also of note, there are recipes for blends, and incantations you can use them in peppered throughout the book.
- the illustrations for the different plants are a nice touch too
the drawbacks
- honestly, I just wish that there were a few more entries for oils that I like to use. I have grabbed this book off my shelf to look up an oil and it is sometimes not in the book.
Overall this is a great book for both new witch-lings who what to learn about botanicals and seasoned practitioners who want to expand their knowledge. I give it ….
