On today’s episode of “The Witching ½ Hour or so…” I get to chat away with my good friend and fellow nature worshiper Shannon Brundret. My friendship with Shannon grew from me attending her stand-up paddleboard yoga classes. She is known for teaching yoga outdoors in some of the most beautiful places you can imagine. So, I’m going to include lots of photos in today’s show notes. Like this one of her in Warrior 3 on a mountain top.

Shannon is the founder of Ceiba Tree Yoga, she teaches yoga for all ages and stages of life. One of my favourites (other than her SUP yoga classes) is her series “Yoga for Anxiety and Stress.” She is hosting a sieries in the new year that I am extra excited for, focusing on the 4 elements. Earth, Air, Water, and Fire.

The topic for the episode is grounding but we cover so much more than that 😊 we winde our way through a bunch of topics that all connect to the idea of being grounded….
– Connecting to nature as a way of centering ourselves
– Ways we can connect to nature when we cannot get outside
– Using our breath as a cornerstone of a grounding practice
– The importance of grounding yourself before facilitating an event or class
– The energy and magic of community
– Working with moon energies on the water
Grounding seems like a simple practice, but it is one of the more important aspects of spiritual practice. It’s a small step we can do every day (and sometimes I need to re-do it throughout my day) that has a profound impact on our overall wellness. We can think of the different layers of being grounded too. There is the idea of being present in the moment you are in, present within your body, or feeling connected to the macrocosm of this great world. In our discussion on being grounded, Shannon and I reflect on how we both use our connection to nature and natural spaces to ground ourselves.
We talked about breathwork as a foundation to being grounded both in our bodies, the present moment and our lives. Shannon shares with us from the perspective of a yoga teacher, about how our breath can tell us what is going on within us. How tuning into what our breath is doing in a given moment can help us to connect to what is going on within ourselves. We can then mindfully use our breath to ground and center ourselves.
We finish up by indulging ourselves in a discussion about being on the water together on our SUPs. Events we ahve been at under the full moon and the magic of our shared passion for paddleboarding. One of my favourite things is to be out on the water or a remote beach during a full moon. The energy of the water truly amplifies the moon’s magic. As promised here are photos that I snapped just with my phone during our full moon paddles. One of the setting sun and one of the moon and her light on the water.

There seems to be special energy and magic that happens when women come together to heal and grow with each other. When that happens in natural and wild spaces it seems to amplify the beauty of the process. Whenever I am out with Shannon at a Ceiba Tree event, the group is blessed with the presence of birds. Often an osprey will spend a significant time soaring over or an eagle will come and hang out with us. I’ve looked up the meaning of the 3 birds we see most often.
Heron: the heron asks you to look deeply into yourself and take solo time to reflect on your position. She speaks of timing and opportunities; one must know what they are seeking so that they can act quickly when the opportunity presents itself.
Osprey: The Osprey is connected to all aspects of Solar Worship and comes into your life to emphasize the value and healing power of the sun. As a bird of prey and relative of the hawk, she represents power. Often Osprey will come to you when you are in a transition, reminding you of your power and that you are strong enough to dive into your emotions
Eagle: Eagle appears to inspire you to reach higher and become more than you think you are capable of. They tell you to be courageous and stretch your limits and see what you can do. The Eagle is a bird of two worlds both the sky and the water and can sometimes call us to walk between the worlds, to see with the spiritual side of situations
